Mildura Shine Co conducts all work under the OHS Act 2004 (VIC) and, where applicable in NSW, the WHS Act 2011. As a sole-operator business, the operator personally holds every duty in this policy and applies the same standard whether or not anyone is watching. Safety controls are engineered into the method of work, not bolted on.
Core controls
Ground-based method by design: glass and solar above ground-floor reach are cleaned by water-fed pole from the ground (hierarchy of control: eliminate the fall risk rather than manage it). Work requiring elevated access beyond basic single-storey ladder use is declined or referred until the business's Working at Heights module (MSC roadmap) is formally activated with training, equipment and insurance in place.
Electrical: pre-start overhead powerline/service-drop survey at every site before any pole is raised (conductive carbon poles; 3m no-go zone). RCD protection on all 240V equipment. Damaged solar panels are treated as live DC and not touched.
Ladders (basic access only): industrial-rated (120kg+), 4:1 angle, three points of contact, secured top (standoff or gutter clamp), no work in wind >25 km/h, never above the rated standing level.
Chemicals: managed under MSC-REG-01 (Chemical Register & SDS Index); ammonia-family and chlorine-family products are never stored or transported together.
Heat & UV: summer glass work is scheduled 6:30–11:30am; no heavy outdoor work in 40°C+ afternoons; hydration and SPF50+/long sleeves are standing equipment October–March.
Working alone: daily run sheet shared with a nominated contact; end-of-day check-in; phone carried on person.
Public protection: work zones managed with cones/signage where hoses cross footpaths; trailing-lead and slip controls on commercial frontages; equipment never left unattended in pedestrian areas.
Plant & equipment: maintained to manufacturer schedules; pressure equipment operated with functioning pressure controls; defective gear tagged out of the ute until repaired.
On client and construction sites
Construction Induction (White Card, VIC face-to-face) held; site-specific inductions attended per MSC-PRO-01.
SWMS provided for any engagement meeting the high-risk construction work definition, before work starts.
Client site rules are followed where they exceed this policy; conflicts are raised before work, not after.
Incident response
Injuries, near-misses, property damage and dangerous occurrences are recorded same-day in the incident log and handled under MSC-PRO-02. Notifiable incidents are reported to WorkSafe Victoria as required by law.
